to honor those fallen

He quoted my lesson verbatim, "Memorial Day honors soldiers who have died in wars." It must've been a powerful connection for him to remember that lesson from months earlier.

To all the men and women of our Armed Services who have made the ultimate sacrifice for life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness, you have my eternal gratitude.

distracted

I get easily distracted by bright flowers. We were walking to the Pentagon Memorial to check it out. I'm still sorting through those shots.

textured textile trifecta

I couldn't decide which one I liked best. Since they're so similar, I offer a group of three. Don't think I've done a triple since New Year's or so. I did it a lot more earlier in this blog's lifespan.

sunny day needs

The vendors selling sunglasses should have been doing brisk business on a day like Saturday. It was a gorgeous, sunny day, perfect for walking around Eastern Market.

shadows across the floor

Sometimes shadows across the floor just catch my eye. This isn't the first time on my belly to get a shot.

the replacement

When my uncle sold the family tavern in 1999, the Moose became the watering hole of choice for many of the displaced patrons. Lately, I haven't set foot in a pub, bar, or speakeasy in town. There's reasons, sure, but it'd still be nice to do something after my grandma goes to bed at sunset.

cambria prison blues

When I was just a baby, my mama told me, "Son, always be a good boy. Don't ever play with guns."

But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die...

hidden polar bear

My class took a field trip to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History late last month to review for the upcoming Standards of Learning assessments. The kids had a blast running around the museum, checking off boxes on their scavenger hunts. I had a blast capturing their fun from afar with my Nikon.

green leaves and blue skies

The skies threatened to soak us for the whole day, but we were treated to dry rocks, strong winds, and cool temps for an abbreviated trip to Cooper's Rock State Forest near Morgantown, West Virginia. Heal up, my friend, and we will make the return trip.

base ten exposure values

It's far too rare that I take a trip into the District lately. I often see these mirrors and think they'd make an interesting shot. I think I'll be on the hunt for more of these on my next foray across the Potomac.

more from the bouquet

Another homegrown petal shot. I think I'm getting the hang of these macro filters: small aperture, long exposure.

Last week was Teacher Appreciation Week. No one appreciated the flowers more than my better half!

shameless self-promotion

A few weeks ago, I rec'd a comment from a guy who runs a blog about blogs. I'm not sure how or why he found my photos, but he wanted to know more about them. He had some questions, and I answered them. Real exciting, I know.

The "interview" is posted at BlogInterviewer. Check me out.

I'll resume regularly scheduled broadcasting as soon as I finish mounting and matting the black and white prints I got on metallic paper from Mpix.com for the guest bedroom. They look amazing.

happy mum's day

My mom's great. According to my dad, she's given me many of my better qualities. Patience. Love. Compassion. Despite the miles between us, I hope that she feels my hug from afar. LYF, LYFA.
