She indulges me and acts as a model every so often. See others in my Portraits set on Flickr.

of a, on a

The other star stallion was a, F355 racecar. It had a full roll cage setup, but it wasn't as photogenic because of all the sponsors' decals. While trying to get close-ups of its details, I noticed this reflection in the fender of its prettier stable-mate.

no trickeration necessary

No, this was not taken with any sort of filter on the lens. I color-corrected a bit in post, but this is a true reflection on the hood of a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa.

27 June 2010

grayscale reflections

This shot would've been easier to accomplish were it not blazing hot midday sun. Reflections are much harder to capture at this time of day. Luckily, I was searching for them.

redhead

It was a bright day with two red Ferraris. I had a lot of fun snapping shots of them. I really need to hit a car show sometime soon!

festa italiana

On Sunday, the Italian Cultural Society held Festa Italiana near Judiciary Square. I'll claim I went for the food. I wasn't impressed by what I had to eat. Truthfully, I was looking forward to seeing some Italian sports cars. The Lamborghini & Maserati were missing, but there were two Ferraris instead.

The big day is drawing near. Six hundred truffles were difficult to make. I had camera duty.

I think our garden is Irish. We didn't plant these shamrocks. I hope some shepherds' pie & Guinness pop up next!

tiny vine

Vines keep creeping over the fence from the neighbors' patio. They're fixing to block our door, and I need to trim them soon. A camera doesn't quite do the job.

hard decisions

Last weekend, I went out in the parking lot to take some photos of these ubiquitous blooming orange day lilies. They're everywhere. Their colors just plain pop in real life, and I had a really hard time deciding which photo was the best of the bunch. I had to be extra critical of the entire frame, bokeh and all. Good choice?

underloved

This is one of my favorite memorials in the city. It is underloved and rarely seen, save the few locals that know of it and a rare tourist that stumbles upon it. It looks a bit different now than in the fall, no?

first of the season

A few weeks ago, I bought some farm-fresh tomatoes from the farmers' market. I had forgotten what they're supposed to taste like. I can't wait to be reminded again from my own vines.

I couldn't help but hear the Sopranos' theme song play in my head when I saw these two anonymous paisanos talking shop on the corner in the North End.

others' eyes

As we walked along, Eric stopped on a street corner as we ambled on. He asked me to take this shot. He was particularly taken by the difference in architectural styles from this one vantage point. I do believe I'll have to print and frame it for him. Good eye!

Lee's eye caught the old Cadillac. My camera disappointed me on the details. This one came out exactly as planned.

the main reason

The main reason we went to Boston for the bachelor party was to take in a ballgame at Fenway. Neither the fans nor the Sox disappointed, with the latter serving up a nail biter of a 1-0 win. I think beer and baseball should be an annual or so event for the guys. Who's with me?

reflections to fenway

As we were trucking it from Ruggles to Fenway, we crossed a bridge over this lake or river. I snapped a quick shot, expecting nothing to come of it. Hey, when inspiration strikes, sometimes you strike gold. For what was initially a quick snapshot, this one turned out pretty well, no?

Unlike the Metro, it seems that the MBTA allows musicians to perform in their subway stops. This anonymous gentleman was one of many and by far one of the more talented ones.

impromptu

I'm getting better at impromptu portraits. Controlling depth of field on the fly is getting easier, even with the kit lens attached. Not sure if converting this to black and white is the fix for the distracting, though out-of-focus background. Thoughts?

UPDATE: Whatever suggestions you make to improve/change/create something new, I'll edit with Flickr and post them to my photostream.

a bit out of focus

Bokeh is the technical term for what the out-of-focus areas of a shot look like. With proper lighting, some crazy effects can take place. Yes, this is intentionally all bokeh and no sharply-focused foreground. For way more info than most will ever need, check this Zeiss article out.
