bright

Surprisingly, I didn't have to crop this entirely too much. These new filters are going to be a lot of fun when I figure out the quirks! For starters, methinks f/1.8 is too wide of an aperture to get good detail in the whole frame. Next round, I'm stopping it down a few and see what happens.

emerging from the depths of winter

Daffodils are everywhere. Tulips are beginning to send up stalks from recently-thawed soil. Even humble little buttercups and hated dandelions are peeking out.

One thing I learned in the hiatus was how to set a custom white balance. Here, I did neither. I used presets. The bottom was incandescent for the recessed lighting above. The top, I used the preset for sunlight to give it a warmer tone. In the comments, which one do you like better?

scotch scotch scotch

Last week, I was invited to a Johnnie Walker tasting event by a friend. We were able to taste the whole stable of Walker scotch whiskies, much like a wine tasting at a vineyard. (Yes, even Blue Label!) It was a good time, and now I would not shy away from drinking scotch if bourbon's not available.

old fashioned

Nothing like meeting with an old friend for a drink to set things right. These busy lives we lead in the District/Maryland/Virginia sadly mean months can pass before we see one another to catch up...unless it's football season.

it's been a while

From fauxtography phlog

Sorry for the long hiatus, friends and followers. Weekends have been busy, and the resulting photos weren't worth sharing. I'd rather not post than post photos I'm not happy with.
