realized

It was somewhere near this flower that I realized my mistake and frantically went back through the gardens we were in, trying desperately to recreate some of the shots I'd taken in the last 20 minutes or so. The boat cruise was a lost cause.

little. yellow. different.

The histogram for this seemingly simple shot looks like the Hindu Kush in central Asia.

real live fall

The leaves had changed quite a bit in the three weeks that'd passed since I last was in West Virginia. I'm looking forward to them in D.C.

new yellow mums

We finally have a bit of color on our patio. After a summer of unruly tomato plants trying to take over like Genghis Khan, we pulled them all out and planted some flowers for the fall. We're hoping the window box does well through December. We're planting herbs and lettuce in the spring.

adrenaline-fueled fun

Quite often at Great Falls, visitors will see brightly-colored kayaks racing and pausing in and around the many waterfalls. Before I moved here, a climbing buddy of mine who kayaks told me I needed to get a kayak and try my hand at it. After seeing the falls runners' skill and precision, I think I'll need quite a bit of practice and mentoring before I'd even undertake such an awesomely perilous rush.

distracted

I get easily distracted by bright flowers. We were walking to the Pentagon Memorial to check it out. I'm still sorting through those shots.

superbly detailed

A little bit closer. Her initial reaction was zinnia, but she soon realized it wasn't.

fine and dandelion

A splash of yellow in an otherwise boring grass-scape of green. I don't know why these are hated so!

twilit tulip

We fought our way to the Tidal Basin after eating some Ben's Chili Bowl. Too many tourists in both places, so we bailed and headed to the Russia House in Dupont Circle. Must return for a proper meal that doesn't revolve around vodka.

12 April 2010

opening bud

Before I left for spring break, I had a chance to get on my belly at school and snap a few of the flowers littering our campus. This bud has most likely bloomed and moved on since it was taken.

06 April 2010

petal depth

I wish I'd had more depth of field in this shot. Macro photography is a whole different animal that I'm going to have to get used to.

23 March 2010

bright

Surprisingly, I didn't have to crop this entirely too much. These new filters are going to be a lot of fun when I figure out the quirks! For starters, methinks f/1.8 is too wide of an aperture to get good detail in the whole frame. Next round, I'm stopping it down a few and see what happens.

back in the day

This was the only ride deemed safe when I was a kid. No moving parts and a burlap sack equaled fun. I didn't ride this one. There didn't seem to be a carny nearby to hand out the burlap.

29 July 2009

sunflowers in the sunshine

I had some time to kill and my camera in hand. Bicyclists were sparse, and my battery life dwindled. At least I found some sunflowers!
