This one's getting blown up and put on the wall. It's my favorite photo in quite a while.

escaping shadows
I've often tried to get a shot like this. I don't love this one, but it's my best attempt yet. I need to learn how to straighten out perspective so all the lines square up. I feel like that's a Photoshop trick.

bridge over ol' man river
We hadn't the time to stop for me to be more meticulous about my composition. I improvised from the passenger's seat.

capitol hill books
Located across the street from Eastern Market, Capitol Hill Books has narrow aisles between floor-to-ceiling used books that can overwhelm even the most ardent bibliophile. We wandered around the claustrophobic stacks and managed to find three that piqued our interest: War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy, Prozac Nation by Elizabeth Wurtzel, & A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. A nice consolation prize for the day.

empty cafe table
As we wandered in Florida, we stumbled upon a small whole foods market. We were lured in by the promise of hot coffee. We stayed for the bulk dates & the interesting proprietor.

roadside beauty
At the beginning of June, these tiny flowers appeared in the median on my way to work. I'd never have noticed them were it not for the interminably long light. I wandered over with my prime and screw-in macro filters.

shadow boxing
She'd just gotten home from work. We were talking in the kitchen and my adult-onset ADD kicked in. I don't know why I liked what I saw; perhaps you can explain it?

shadows across the floor
Sometimes shadows across the floor just catch my eye. This isn't the first time on my belly to get a shot.

a deserted park
In the summertime, Upton Hill Park on Wilson Boulevard is filled with the screams of children at the pool, the ping of the hitters in the batting cages, and golf claps on the minigolf course. It is a decidedly quieter landscape after nearly three feet of snow fall.

view from a puddle of snow
That strange photographer's eye came out again just as I was meeting a friend for lunch near Eastern Market. Shadows, reflections, an alternative viewpoint. Good times.

like white on rice
On a paper plate in a snowstorm. This was as close as I got to the vision in my head. Thoughts?

picket fences
Taking a photowalk in the snow is exhausting. Fortunately, this fence wasn't too far from our apartment. I wanted to get just fence and snowy shadows, but I couldn't frame it without leaving footprints. Too bad.

dunes of...snow
I took a photo in March in the sand. The shadows here are pretty similar, though with a vastly different temperature.

One red cardinal against the snow. I really wish I had a long zoom lens for this one.

bright red
Red really stands out against snow. I guess that's why ski patrol wears red coats...
