bygone

At the intersection of Pitt & Richard Streets is an old building that is filled with old automobiles. I thought at first it was an auto museum. There were no signs at all on the building, and I can't find a thing online. I think I need to ask my relatives for information. They live close enough that they might know something.

lobstermen

I planned on getting up at sunrise on our last day to get some shots of the lobstermen taking their boats out. Turns out sunrise is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5AM. My walk started at 7:30 instead, far later than I wanted, but still much earlier than the rest of the tourists.

jordan pond, vol. 2

We went for a ride around the park on our last full day in town. We stopped by Jordan Pond, which we'd seen from above on a hike earlier. It looks a bit different up close, yes?

indiscriminate

With the canoe leaking all over my flip flops, I took great care to protect my camera by hanging it on my person. It wouldn't have helped much if we went over, but I was fairly certain that wasn't going to happen.

capitol columns

At the National Arboretum, there are columns from the Capitol building before they expanded the east wing. I've always wanted to check them out behind the lens. I finally got my chance on Sunday. I even brought my fully-functioning 35mm and shot some film. Being judicious with those shots, I have to finish the roll first. That may take a while!

hardly unnoticed

Oh, hi there. I almost missed you gleaming on the curbside, attracting curious and lustful looks. Care for a picture?

bridge over ol' man river

We hadn't the time to stop for me to be more meticulous about my composition. I improvised from the passenger's seat.

reflected in the lens

Last weekend, I headed off to Coopers Rock State Forest again in West Virginia. While waiting for the campsite to get moving, I took the Nikon out. My eye caught a reflection yet again.

steel & glass city

Pittsburgh is very much under construction. Glittering glass and steel edifices such as this stand next to buildings that've likely been there for a hundred years.

reflecting on a great photo hunt

Often when I can't fit the subject into my viewfinder, I search for a reflection to do the work my focal length can't. Case in point. I'm getting better at bringing the right lens when I know what I'm shooting, but sometimes 18mm isn't enough either. My eyes are beginning to pick up the reflections without thinking about it. They often turn into better than expected photos.

of a, on a

The other star stallion was a, F355 racecar. It had a full roll cage setup, but it wasn't as photogenic because of all the sponsors' decals. While trying to get close-ups of its details, I noticed this reflection in the fender of its prettier stable-mate.

no trickeration necessary

No, this was not taken with any sort of filter on the lens. I color-corrected a bit in post, but this is a true reflection on the hood of a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa.

grayscale reflections

This shot would've been easier to accomplish were it not blazing hot midday sun. Reflections are much harder to capture at this time of day. Luckily, I was searching for them.

festa italiana

On Sunday, the Italian Cultural Society held Festa Italiana near Judiciary Square. I'll claim I went for the food. I wasn't impressed by what I had to eat. Truthfully, I was looking forward to seeing some Italian sports cars. The Lamborghini & Maserati were missing, but there were two Ferraris instead.

reflections to fenway

As we were trucking it from Ruggles to Fenway, we crossed a bridge over this lake or river. I snapped a quick shot, expecting nothing to come of it. Hey, when inspiration strikes, sometimes you strike gold. For what was initially a quick snapshot, this one turned out pretty well, no?

sunny day needs

The vendors selling sunglasses should have been doing brisk business on a day like Saturday. It was a gorgeous, sunny day, perfect for walking around Eastern Market.

base ten exposure values

It's far too rare that I take a trip into the District lately. I often see these mirrors and think they'd make an interesting shot. I think I'll be on the hunt for more of these on my next foray across the Potomac.
