sunset

I'm not real quick on the draw for posting new photos. I'd love to get back to my normal grind and routine, but life keeps getting in the way. From National Harbor, just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Hope your days are less hectic and afford you the chances to enjoy the sunsets that I somehow miss daily.

verdant

The result of all the spring rainshowers is a bright injection of green into our flora. It's going to be a vibrant summer!

turbulence ahead

That's what we expected at least. Our tiny little plane took off and landed with no troubles to arrive back home at Reagan National ahead of schedule with unexpectedly warm temperatures.

stormy weather

I love a stormy day. Just not when I have to catch a flight!

iwo jima

On the last day of school before winter break, I got home pretty early. I decided to head to Rosslyn with my camera, walk around, then surprise my wife by picking her up at work. In a bout of photographic karma, I was blessed with some spectacular clouds on a chilly afternoon.

equal justice under law

On prior trips to the Supreme Court, I was either camera-less or hindered by my focal length. Kit lens to the rescue!

home of the buccos

As a kid, I went to Three Rivers Stadium a few times. It was a lot of fun as a baseball-loving kid, especially because it was before the birth of my hometown Florida Marlins. Since then, the Marlins have been founded and won two World Series titles. Pittsburgh has built a shiny new ballpark, but hasn't won a pennant or a trophy in the meantime.

of a, on a

The other star stallion was a, F355 racecar. It had a full roll cage setup, but it wasn't as photogenic because of all the sponsors' decals. While trying to get close-ups of its details, I noticed this reflection in the fender of its prettier stable-mate.

no trickeration necessary

No, this was not taken with any sort of filter on the lens. I color-corrected a bit in post, but this is a true reflection on the hood of a 1987 Ferrari Testarossa.

grayscale reflections

This shot would've been easier to accomplish were it not blazing hot midday sun. Reflections are much harder to capture at this time of day. Luckily, I was searching for them.

"All this history around you, and you're taking a photo of a car windshield."
Indeed.

finding the freedom trail

As we hunted for the Freedom Trail in Boston, I held my breath for this shot. Patience is a virtue, especially in photography.

moonlight illumination

I believe I'm going to convert this one to black & white for a poster-sized print for our freshly-painted guest bedroom.

cabin one

During an afternoon siesta, I was struck by the blue sky above and the fact that there were actually clouds floating by. There wouldn't be clouds for the rest of the week.

la luna llena

My first attempt at photographing la bella luna. I've been told that I need to treat it as if I'm photographing the sun and adjust my settings as such. When I tried, all that remained in the shot was one lone dot with everything else in the frame black. This was shot with my 35mm prime; a longer focal length may be in order for starters. Any other thoughts?

channeling uncle deck

A locally famous photographer named Deck Lane is in my family tree. My folks have one of his shots at home that will become mine someday. Once I found out it was taken by a family member, I liked it even more. Like him, I'm largely self-taught, but digital makes it far less expensive to do so nowadays.

saturated landmark, part deux

Two weeks ago, I went to Screen on the Green on the National Mall. The weather was threatening off in the distance. Strange looking clouds enveloped the Washington Monument. In trying to catch some lightning, I got this shot, played with the saturation, and this came out. Too much digital noise to make a great large print, but on a small scale, what do you think?
