sunset

I'm not real quick on the draw for posting new photos. I'd love to get back to my normal grind and routine, but life keeps getting in the way. From National Harbor, just across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. Hope your days are less hectic and afford you the chances to enjoy the sunsets that I somehow miss daily.

the reason

Shooting the quick sunset at the summit of Cadillac Mountain was the reason for much of my dissatisfaction. I was shooting in aperture priority mode, dropped my exposure to two stops underexposed, and forgot to reset it for our harbor cruise the next morning. Translation: all of my shots from the boat were severely underexposed and full of noise when I corrected them in post. Guess I'll have to go back to Maine with new glass and a lesson learned!

lyon

One of many photographs I took of statues and stone carvings throughout the week. This one was at Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. This park was walking distance from our apartment, and we were able to walk around it twice during our visit. See more of the statues here.

above the clouds

The sun sets on a great weekend with my friends and soon-to-be family. Thanks for coming, y'all.

reflections to fenway

As we were trucking it from Ruggles to Fenway, we crossed a bridge over this lake or river. I snapped a quick shot, expecting nothing to come of it. Hey, when inspiration strikes, sometimes you strike gold. For what was initially a quick snapshot, this one turned out pretty well, no?

more depth?

I think this one has a bit more depth than yesterday's shot. Same sunset, different point of view. Thoughts?

10 April 2010

weak sunset

As it turned out, I chose the worst day to have the forethought to go out to the lookout for some long exposure sunset shots. The rest of the days weren't as clear skies and were lit up with all kinds of colors in the clouds. At least I was climbing instead!

a snowy sunset

As the second major snowstorm wound down, those of us who emerged were treated to a beautiful sunset. It almost seemed like a mea culpa from God himself. I still see beauty in the snow, so I was doubly pleased.

not a canal in venice

Rather, the one in my parents' backyard. There are no gondolas. Just anhingas and filthsome Muscovy ducks.

a forgotten memorial

Obscured by trees and rarely visited, the World War One Memorial is often overlooked by tourists looking for the WWII, Vietnam, or Korean War memorials.

d.c. sunset

My photographer's eye snagged this shot as we hurried off to the Metro station after a Gator win. No post processing needed except for a little crop. Lucky me for having the right settings on hand! If you look carefully in the silhouette, you can make out the Washington Monument peeking out from behind the trees.

the rest of the story

There's a crane near my house that hasn't moved in years it would seem, though I'd venture a guess that it's only been months. It has a cracked windshield, rusted cables, and extensions for the boom laying next to it. There's not a job site near it, nor any indication of who it belongs to. I've always wanted a crane! Finders keepers?

saturated landmark, part deux

Two weeks ago, I went to Screen on the Green on the National Mall. The weather was threatening off in the distance. Strange looking clouds enveloped the Washington Monument. In trying to catch some lightning, I got this shot, played with the saturation, and this came out. Too much digital noise to make a great large print, but on a small scale, what do you think?

edited sunset

I used Picasa's focal black and white to leave the sky's color and quiet the rest of the frame.

sunset at rocky top

We got back from Pies & Pints to find a crazy sunset occurring. I played with the settings with each shot. Composing a well-lit sunset picture was pretty tough. Practice makes perfect, I guess. I think this is the best one.
