to honor those fallen


He quoted my lesson verbatim, "Memorial Day honors soldiers who have died in wars." It must've been a powerful connection for him to remember that lesson from months earlier.

To all the men and women of our Armed Services who have made the ultimate sacrifice for life, liberty & the pursuit of happiness, you have my eternal gratitude.

a deserted park


In the summertime, Upton Hill Park on Wilson Boulevard is filled with the screams of children at the pool, the ping of the hitters in the batting cages, and golf claps on the minigolf course. It is a decidedly quieter landscape after nearly three feet of snow fall.
