ghostly stars

According to the plaque nearby, each of the 4,048 golden stars at the National World War II Memorial represents 100 Americans who died in that war. This photo only represents about 15,000 of the dead.

Chilling.

backlog

So, with the busy weekend we had and the honeymoon to follow, I'm backdating this Fourth of July photo. I've got over 800 shots to go through from Paris. Happy belated birthday, America!

an egyptian obelisk

Yes, that's right. The Washington Monument's design was influenced in part by the ancient Egyptians. Bet you didn't learn that from your third grade teacher! At 555 feet, it stands as the tallest structure in Washington D.C. From this perspective, it looks somewhat smaller.

saturated landmark, part deux

Two weeks ago, I went to Screen on the Green on the National Mall. The weather was threatening off in the distance. Strange looking clouds enveloped the Washington Monument. In trying to catch some lightning, I got this shot, played with the saturation, and this came out. Too much digital noise to make a great large print, but on a small scale, what do you think?
