Columns were first used by the ancient Greeks as an architectural element. In case you haven't noticed, they're all over D.C.

Interesting leading lines or textures can really make a shot like this. I love the contrast of the green ivy and the rough bark on this one. The bokeh bonus didn't hurt either.

bouldering playground
The road into Coopers Rock State Forest is often populated by daytripping hikers and topropers. We boulderers tend to stay a bit longer, especially with weather and foliage like this. How could we not!?

lyon
One of many photographs I took of statues and stone carvings throughout the week. This one was at Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris. This park was walking distance from our apartment, and we were able to walk around it twice during our visit. See more of the statues here.

bridge over dirtied waters
We came upon a bridge over a creek. It was filthy. Rather than use Photoshop trickeration, I used depth of field and an alternate point of view to disguise the creek's less attractive attributes. I've done it before closer to home.

view from a puddle of snow
That strange photographer's eye came out again just as I was meeting a friend for lunch near Eastern Market. Shadows, reflections, an alternative viewpoint. Good times.

a field of fall
I deemed this field to be perfect for bocce ball. Unfortunately, the neighbors take their dogs out here. I'm not wild about playing bocce and trying to avoid lawn mines.

a different perspective
I climbed out of the creekbed, screwed on the new prime, and added a warming filter before clicking the shutter. All I had to worry about was a car pulling into the parking spot.
