thirty clams (or so)

For my wife's birthday on Sunday, we took a trip to the Southwest Waterfront & bought some clams. I made linguine with clam sauce for her and her family. Delicious dinner. Fabulous company. She had a blast.

long overdue

New year, old picture. This one and possibly another from our trip to Florida for Christmas. Pop's been watching a lot of Food Network lately. The salad he concocted for Christmas dinner was great and unlike any salad or slaw I've had before: fennel slaw with prosciutto & pistachio pesto. You must try it!

summer grillin'

The temps are turning cooler. Our 2010 summer was marked by plenty of Florida-like days filled with sunshine. On days where it dips into the 80s in the shade, it's just perfect for sitting on the patio and catching up with friends over a mojo pork sandwich and some grilled corn on the cob.

au bon pain

Bread making is an art form in France. Bread came with everything in Paris. I'm not talking about Pillsbury canned rolls or warmed up dinner rolls. They were all light, chewy, crispy deliciousness. Most were sliced baguettes, but these were tiny morsels of golden perfection.

getting close

The big day is drawing near. Six hundred truffles were difficult to make. I had camera duty.

best. cookies. ever.

If you don't believe me, go to Spider Kelly's in Clarendon, and try them for yourself. Anyone who disagrees is either a better baker or a liar.

homemade rolls

Eric makes a mean homemade roll. I couldn't decide which one, so here's a three spot for the New Year.

popeye's harem

A. Litteri is an Italian market in D.C. that has been open since 1926. They keep eighty or so types of olive oil in stock. Popeye wouldn't need to fight with Bluto anymore.

chili half smoke

The food goes fast; the workers move faster. There will be a line; don't sweat it. If you're looking for health food, go somewhere else!

Jaleo makes a lot of paella for Taste of Arlington. I do mean a lot.
