homemade rolls

Eric makes a mean homemade roll. I couldn't decide which one, so here's a three spot for the New Year.

the creek again

Now for the real snow on the banks of my creek. I love the sky through the trees.

dunes of...snow

I took a photo in March in the sand. The shadows here are pretty similar, though with a vastly different temperature.

a lone male

One red cardinal against the snow. I really wish I had a long zoom lens for this one.

25 December 2009

bright red

Red really stands out against snow. I guess that's why ski patrol wears red coats...

footbridge

I briefly considered getting my snowboard to go down this ramp. She cautioned against it, saying something about a small margin of error. Pish posh!

23 December 2009

winter apartments

Thigh deep snow drifts. We apartment dwellers don't quite know what our responsibilities are regarding snow removal. Me, I went and played in it.

la ville de lumières

Looking forward to getting my first stamp on my passport. It's taken far too long.

21 December 2009

before the real storm

Earlier this month, we got a few inches of snow. I thought I was jinxing myself by buying a snow shovel for our ground floor apartment. Boy, was I wrong!

seafood, in neon

Commercial Boulevard & State Road A1A. Closed road, Elvis impersonator, eating ice cream outside in November. Gotta love Florida!

not a canal in venice

Rather, the one in my parents' backyard. There are no gondolas. Just anhingas and filthsome Muscovy ducks.

hibiscus shadow

In the viewfinder, it can be tough to see what's in focus when the aperture is wide open. The shadow of the stigma is crystal clear, while its tangible counterpart is blurred.

03 December 2009

peering over the grounds

Flagler House has since been turned into a museum in Palm Beach, Florida. It sits on the Intracoastal Waterway. You can see the view from the estate. Pretty nice, no?

a whole room dedicated to lace?

I'll lay on my stomach and take pictures of the shadows the lace curtains cast, thank you very much.

early electricity

Henry Flagler was a wealthy man. Tycoon wealthy. Founded Standard Oil with John D. Rockefeller wealthy. We toured his mansion on Black Friday. Much of it was ornate and insanely ostentatious. More photos of that to follow.
