I've never quite understood why maize is such an integral decoration in the fall. I'm pretty sure it's barely edible. I much prefer the squash family or summer corn. Yet another photo that'd make a pretty good puzzle.

Back in high school, I unloaded a few trucks full of pumpkins. By trucks, I mean eighteen wheelers stacked floor to ceiling, from stem to stern. We got $900 per trailer. Somehow, I learned things in photography class the next day despite my fatigue.

A locally famous photographer named Deck Lane is in my family tree. My folks have one of his shots at home that will become mine someday. Once I found out it was taken by a family member, I liked it even more. Like him, I'm largely self-taught, but digital makes it far less expensive to do so nowadays.

I took almost 300 photos over the weekend. Shooting in low light with the flash used to yield washed out messes. Something clicked with experimentation this weekend. Here, Tim works on The Unforgiven, a V7 crimpfest.

This one looked best on the Nikon's LCD; unfortunately, not so on the computer screen. I adjusted the shadows slightly to bring out the texture of the brick and applied a slight tint to it. I quite like it.

an overcast weather vane

"Think the Christian Science Reading Room people would mind if I climbed on their wall to take a picture of their weather vane?" I asked.

"Yes," she replied. Thank goodness for a zoom lens. This wasn't converted to black and white, by the way. These are actual colors. If you look closely, you can see a little bit of rust on the roof.
